Trout Rock Lodge Retreat Winter Itinerary
The Rock Island Retreat is available in the winter (Nov. 30 - April 15). Located 45 kilometres from Yellowknife, you’ll be via Swedish military tank across Great Slave Lake’s frozen surface in the winter.
Day 1:
- Arrive in Yellowknife – Guide meets you at airport, transferring you via shuttle to hotel
- Yellowknife City Tour (Excursion) (embed link to detailed description of the specific activity)
a. As part of the Yellowknife City Tour, you’ll venture to the Northern Sky 360° Dome Theatre where you’ll get to experience a new, revolutionary way to watch movies. Northern Sky, the most recent feature presentation, will take you on a wonderfully immersive journey into new realities. You’ll be in awe as you explore planets, galaxies and learn more about the showcase attraction, aurora borealis!
- Deluxe Coach Aurora Viewing: Kick back and relax while a deluxe coach takes you to numerous serene lakes (embed link of detailed activity listing). You’ll forever remember the stunning, crystal-clear reflections off the exceptionally still lakes.
- Back to the hotel (either Explorer Hotel or Chateau Nova) for a sound night’s sleep
Day 2:
- Breakfast at hotel
- Free leisurely morning before gathering at meeting point
- Experience a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hop aboard a Swedish military tank, which transports you 45 minutes across Great Slave Lake’s frozen surface on route to Trout Rock Lodge
- Dinner at Trout Rock Lodge
- Northern Lights’ Viewing: Cap off the fun-filled day by viewing aurora borealis just steps from the comfort of your cabin. Enjoy the spectacle from the Lodge Deck, an excellent place for an unobstructed 360° view.
Day 3:
- Breakfast at the Lodge
- Day Activities, including snowmobile tour, ice fishing, snowshoeing (links to all of detailed listings of activities). Enjoy lunch on the shoreline of Great Slave Lake
- Dinner at the Lodge
- Northern Lights’ Viewing: Stay close to the cabin so you can enjoy aurora borealis from the comfort of your holiday home!
Day 4:
- Breakfast at the Lodge
- Depart Lodge, taken back to Yellowknife via a 45-minute Swedish military tank atop Great Slave Lake’s frozen surface
- Transfer to Enodah Kennel, where you’ll go dog sledding. Enjoy the majestic scenery as you venture harmoniously with your team of dogs through Boreal Forest’s untouched wilderness. (embedded link to full activity description)
- Aurora Viewing at Aurora Station: Fitted with a 360° sky-deck observatory for optimal northern lights’ viewings. Hop inside the cabin to enjoy freshly served hot beverages and snacks, rounding out the perfect aurora experience.
- Back to the hotel (either Explorer Hotel or Chateau Nova) for a sound night’s sleep
Day 5:
- Breakfast in hotel
- Depart for airport
